‘IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD’. Triptych, altar crucifix and processional staff for Engehaugen Church, Gjøvik.
Triptych with side wings that can be opened and closed. Opens when the service begins, closes when it ends.
When the triptych is open, the wings face out towards the congregation, like an open embrace that welcomes and invites an encounter with the sacred. The golden makes a window towards eternity.
The triptych carries elements of texts and signs, such as the Y from the Early Church, a symbol of man’s longing for God, while the inverted Y is a symbol of God’s love reaching out towards the earth, meeting man’s longing.
Materials triptych and processional cross: Patinated birch and gold leaf. Materials altar crucifix: Fiber concrete and plexiglass.
Inaugurated 1995.
