‘hollyhock seed’, KLEPLANDSTUNET elderly care centre, SØGNE 2022
Seed for Kleplandstunet Elderly Care Centre in Søgne, inaugurated May 2022. Carved in Norwegian Iddefjord granite (115 x 100 x 47 cm). Plinth in the same granite, diameter: 120 cm, height: 40 cm. Commissioned by the City of Kristiansand.
The colorful hollyhock flowers are well known to garden lovers. The seeds, however, are not so well known, but not entirely unknown. Whereas many plant seeds are no larger than dust grains, the seed of a hollyhock measures about 5 millimeters and may be observed with the naked eye. Yet a magnifying glass is normally needed to discover the details. No necessity for that in Søgne…
The artist carved a small hollyhock seed in Italian alabaster in 2002. This was purchased by Vest-Agder County Council and has served as model for the larger seed in granite.
